Gecko News 4/29/2026

Dear Garfield Families,

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the beautiful Corvallis weather! There are a couple of things I wanted to remind you about as we move into the last six weeks of school:

Garfield STEAM Night is This Thursday

Our wonderful PTA has been working on coordinating a STEAM night for the Garfield community!

There will be many fun STEAM activities available for families to enjoy together. Please join us this coming Thursday Night at 6:00 p.m.

Closed toe shoes:

Please make sure students continue to come to school with close-toed shoes. We see a lot of scrapes and cuts when students wear sandals and flip flops. It’s hard to fully engage in play and not get hurt without the proper shoes at school. Thank you for helping us with this!

Student Medication

Any and all medicine can only be taken by students at school if parents have either brought them in and registered them at the front desk with their prescription label.  Otherwise, please leave medicine at home for students to take as needed. This includes cough drops. We are happy to help you with any questions about medications in the front office.

Teacher Appreciation Week

We invite you to join us in showing some love to the incredible educators who support our students every day! During the week of May 4th through May 8th, we invite our families to help us celebrate our Certified Staff.

Here are a few simple ideas:

  • Write a handwritten note or “thank you” card.
  • Create a drawing or a special piece of art.
  • Pick a flower from the garden.
  • Any small token of appreciation

“Certified Staff” includes many of the dedicated professionals who work directly with our students:

  • Classroom & Special Education Teachers
  • School Dean
  • Specialist Teachers: PE, Music, Art
  • Counseling & Mental Health Staff
  • Interventionists, MTSS, & Literacy Coaches
  • EL Teachers & New Teacher Mentors

Thank you for helping us make our staff feel extra special!

Sincerely,

Nancy Davila-Williams, Principal
