Gecko News (9-11-2020)

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Garfield Elementary School.  I can confidently say that this is unlike any other school year! We are excited to implement a comprehensive distance learning structure for the first six weeks of school.  As we get closer to the six weeks mark, district leadership will review COVID data and make a plan for how school will continue after that point.

When we say comprehensive distance learning we mean that students will be connecting with their teacher, other students, and the school from home.  Each classroom teacher has designed a plan to provide for their students that is designed to maximize learning opportunities and support students to develop their learning stamina.  This means that the structure of the classday may change over the next few weeks as students develop their ability to attend to remote instruction.

Teachers have been working over the past few days to connect with every family.  Our hope is that these meetings are an opportunity for you to learn more about the structure of the classroom and an opportunity for our teachers to learn about what is important to you in the coming school year.  If you have not had the opportunity to meet with the teacher (virtually), please contact your child’s teacher to schedule an appointment.  If you are having difficulty contacting the teacher, please contact the Garfield Office at 541-757-5941.

Even with all of the barriers thrown our way, I have to say I feel the excitement that I have every year when we begin school.  We get to work with your children and that is why we do this.  It may look a lot different but we are so excited to see your student and you and build our school community.

Sincerely,

Principal Santy
