Principal's letter

Dear Families,

Congratulations!  We made it through the first full week of comprehensive distance learning.  I want to thank all of you for your patience as we navigate this.  I want to thank all of our teachers and staff for their dedication and perseverance to make this a positive experience for each student.  This continues to be very difficult and the energy that our students bring to “school” makes it all worth it.

I wanted to summarize how we will be recording school attendance (M-T and Th-F) while students are learning from home.  Our goal is to connect with each student and ensure that they have what they need to participate in the virtual classroom:

– If a student participates in a class meeting, makes contact with their teacher, or submits assignments they will be counted as present for school.

– If a student doesn’t participate in the morning meeting, the teacher or classroom assistant will call to check in with the family.  Our first question will be, “how can we help your child connect with school?”  We want to make this work for you and your family.

– If the teacher or classroom assistant does not connect with a family member over the phone, they will send a message through chat or email.  If you receive an inquiry, please let us know what we can do to support you.

-If no one has made contact by the next day, Garfield office staff will call to check in about yesterday’s attendance.

Wednesday attendance is different because students don’t have their morning meeting.  On Wednesdays, students are expected to participate in Art, Music, PE, Library, and Counseling lessons.  They can access these lessons through their iPads and work at their own pace.

On Wednesdays, the teacher or classroom assistant will reach out through Google Chat, Google Classroom, or SeeSaw to see if your child needs any help accessing Wednesday lessons.  We will track their participation in lessons and their contact with teachers on Wednesdays to determine attendance for those days.

We still have our school offices located at Corvallis High School (Building H).  If you have any questions or needs, please feel free to contact us at 541-757-5941.

Sincerely,

Principal Santy
