Principal's letter

Dear Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you all.  We all received the announcement this week that we will not be returning to in person instruction.  Although this decision is very disheartening, I am confident that we are making decisions to keep the health of students, families, and staff at the center.  We will all work to create virtual spaces where our students can be heard and seen just as we would if we were in person.

I wanted to share an update with families about the construction happening at Garfield.  It is so energizing to see the work coming together.  Although there is still much ahead, we are nearing the point where we will be able to occupy the building and we will open our school office at Garfield.  Our hope is that we will move our office space to Garfield on or before November 5th.  We will be working out of temporary office space while the construction continues around us.  This has always been the plan.  As we occupy spaces that are not under construction, the construction team will continue to work on the front office space, the library space and the addition of the 4th/5th grade wing behind the gym.

When the building reopens, the primary (K-1) wing classrooms will be updated with new bathrooms, new teaching technology and updated features including ceiling fans and student cubbies.  If you drive by Garfield, you can see that the drive and parking lot has been paved.  The front office space, including the new entrance, is starting to take shape.  We are so excited to see these changes and have begun envisioning what school will be like for our students in this new space.

Sincerely,

Principal Santy
