Garfield Leadership Change for Remainder of 2020-21 School Year
Principal Leigh Santy will be taking a leave of absence from March 29 through the remainder of this school year. She is planning to return for the 2021-22 school year. Maestra Nancy Dávila-Williams will serve as the interim principal during Principal Santy’s absence. She currently works as Dean of Students at Garfield and has been a Garfield staff member for more than 10 years.
Principal’s message
Dear Families,
It is with a heavy heart that I write my last newsletter for a while. I know it is difficult to implement big changes in a school and to do that in the middle of the year is extremely difficult. One bright spot in this change is that Maestra Dávila Williams can step in to support all the amazing things happening at Garfield. Although it is difficult for me to walk away, I have complete confidence in Maestra’s skill and heart to support the entire Garfield community.
I wanted to reshare a number of documents related to hybrid instruction. You will find a video explaining the arrival and dismissal procedures, a map of drop off and pick up spots, and a a description of symptoms that we are asking all families to screen for before sending their student to school.
It has been a long time since many of our students have left home on a regular basis. It might be helpful to remind students to eat, use the bathroom, and get a jacket before they leave home. This will set them up for success when they are at school.

Interim Principal’s message
Dear Families,
I am having a difficult time writing this note because I know that it is part of Ms. Santy’s last newsletter for the school year. Ms. Santy and I have worked together in some capacity since 2004! So, it is going to be difficult not to see her each day around the building but we will be ready for her return next year.
I am grateful to be able to support as Interim Principal for the remainder of the school year. The Garfield staff is amazing and I know we will continue to work together to help your children transition into the building and enjoy their time with their classmates and their teachers.
