Gecko News (5-6-2021)

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much to the Garfield PTA for your kind gifts again this week. They were very much appreciated along with all of the kind words on the cards. I think I speak for the staff when I say that it meant a lot to us all.

COVID Information Communication:

I want to start by letting you know that the district sent out information to help families understand the process for communication around any positive covid cases at your children’s schools. You should have received an email through ParenSquare. If there is a confirmed positive case,

  1. The individual with the positive case of COVID is contacted by a district nurse and details about potential exposures are gathered. We work closely with Benton County Health Department staff on the confidential investigation.
  2. Staff and parents/guardians of students who were exposed are contacted individually by phone. Depending on the investigation and recommendation of the Benton County Health Department, those individuals may be instructed quarantine for 14 days.
  3. Staff and families at the affected school building will receive a notification of the positive case.

Please help with crowding at the gates:

I know that parents are concerned about the risks involved with crowding and one area where we are seeing more crowding is at the gates on Dixon. Please plan to arrive beginning at 8:00am. That is when the gates open. If parents and students arrive earlier, the area becomes crowded and we cannot open the gates before 8:00am.

During dismissal, please help us by keeping things moving and not congregating by the gates on Dixon.  We really appreciate your help with this.

Pictures:

Students will be coming home with their pictures today. If for any reason you decide you would like retakes, we have those scheduled for May 13th from 10:00am to 2:30pm. You will need to bring your packet of pictures back in order to have pictures retaken.

Next Year’s Plan:

If your plans have changed and your child will not be attending Garfield Elementary next year, please contact the office with this information.

The dismissal schedule will be staggered to help avoid crowding at the gates:

  • 12:45 K-4 Cyclists and bus 29 and 30 release time
  • 12:50 Kindergarten and First Grade release time
  • 12:55 Second and Third Grade release time
  • 1:00 Fourth and Fifth Grade release times

Attached is a map of drop off and pick up spots around the school.

How to know if you should keep your child at home

Attached is  a description of symptoms  that we are asking all families to screen their children for before sending their student to school.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks everyone!
