Dear Parents,
Congratulations to all the Geckos for completing their first week of school! As I walk by the classrooms, I hear the healthy buzz of discussion, read aloud and kids just enjoying their classmates. It’s great to be back with everyone.
There are a few requests and reminders for the week:
Masks
Masks are required on school grounds. We love to have parents walk the sidewalk in front of classroom doors, but if you are, please make sure you are wearing a mask while on school grounds.
Crosswalks
All street crossings should be at a crosswalk. If your child is walking, biking or being dropped off across the street, please make sure they use a crosswalk to cross the street. It is very busy around here before and after school, and we need your help to make sure they are getting to Garfield safely.
Pick-up/Drop Off lane
We are seeing quite a bit of congestion on 11th street and are concerned about the safety of students and of our neighbors.
If you are picking up a student, please use the pick-up/drop-off lane in front of the school. Turn into the Garfield driveway and instead of pulling into the parking lot, pull around to the pick-up lane. Please pull up as far as you can, stay in your car and move along promptly to avoid backing traffic up.
4th and 5th grade students will still be released from the East gate but will be directed to the front of the school for pick-up if they are not walking or riding a bike.
If you need to talk to a teacher, please find a parking spot and walk to their door. No parking in the pick-up lane.
Open House
The Open House we have scheduled for September 23rd will be virtual. At this point in time, we have been directed to avoid all large gatherings on school sites. More information will be available soon.
How to know if you should keep your child at home
Attached is a description of symptoms that we are asking all families to screen their children for before sending their student to school. (541) 757-5941.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Have a nice weekend.
Sincerely,
Nancy Davila-Williams,
Garfield Principal
