No school on Monday!
Last Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) Meeting of the School Year!
Next Tuesday, May 31 at 6:30pm, the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is hosting a meeting with district leadership via Zoom. Parents and caregivers of students receiving special education services are invited to attend, and simultaneous Spanish translation services will be provided. This will be the last SEAC meeting of the year.
SEAC alternates monthly family-to-family meetings and meetings with district leadership. Meetings with district leadership follow an agenda that is: 1) responsive to important issues identified by families; 2) informative about targeted special education topics; and 3) reciprocal in bringing a question informed by family discussion. This month’s agenda will address the following:
- Responsive – Shawn Bernard will share the district’s efforts to address the barriers that racially and linguistically diverse families face when navigating special education services. In February of this year, SEAC submitted a formal letter to district leaders elevating the stories, concerns, and requests for action brought forth by a group of impacted families.
- Informative – Mr. Bernard will briefly present on ways that IEP teams and families can prepare for the summer break. (NOTE: If you have questions about your child’s participation in summer recovery services, please reach out to your case manager or principal).
- Reciprocal – Families will have a discussion about ways that SEAC can improve next school year – how we operate, how we interact with district staff, and how more families can be involved.
