Gecko News 5/2/2025

Dear Garfield Families,

I am struggling to believe that we have six weeks of school left with our amazing students!

There are a lot of fun events coming up and we hope that you can join us.

Bike Education Change

As we learn more about the logistics of going from teaching bike education to one grade level to teaching it to six grade levels within 2 weeks during PE, we have to fine-tune our plans.

One change we are making is that all students are asked to use the bikes we provide for the lessons.

That way they can all be ready to start on time, as this will help us cut out an additional transition and inspections.  It doesn’t take as long to inspect helmets.  So, if students have a safe, personal helmet, they can use it. However, we do also have helmets for them to use.

Bike Education Lessons for all students will be:

Dates: April 30 – May 13

Times: 8:15-11:10 and 11:40-2:25 Monday through Thursday (no pm classes on Friday).

We have a few volunteers signed up and could use several more.

5th Grade Slideshow (Pictures by May  23rd)

It’s not too late! Parents of 5th graders, feel free to send a picture or two of your students at school or at a school event to: [email protected] for the 5th grade graduation slideshow by no later than May 23rd. This will allow us time to put it all together and add music.

We will have pictures of them in 4th and 5th grade but if you have any of this cohort in K-2, we’d love to add those to the slideshow!

Cell Phones at School:

Just a reminder about cell phones and Smart watches that are being brought to school. We discourage this due to student safety and focus and ask that these be kept at home. However, we understand that students need to be able to contact parents after school for various reasons. Therefore, the expectation is that students will have their phones or watches off and in their backpack for the school day. The backpack will stay in the classroom. If taken out during the school day, they are collected and brought to the office for parents to pick up or for students to pick up at the end of the day. Students are welcome to use the office phone to call home if needed.

Please be aware that we are not liable for any lost or damaged phones or watch phones that are brought to school.

Assembly

We had so many students sign up for the talent show that we had to spread the performances across three assemblies! The next assembly will be on May 9th at 12:45. Feel free to join us!

I hope you all have a nice weekend.

Sincerely,

Nancy Davila-Williams, Principal

Upcoming Dates
