Dear Garfield Families,
It’s almost time for fall conferences! This is a great opportunity to learn about how your child is doing at school and to ask questions or share concerns that you may have. The parent-teacher connection is paramount for students to see in that it shows them that we are working together to support them and help them grow. Wednesday, October 29th is an extra early release day and conferences will be held October 30th and October 31st. On Monday, you will get a message on ParentSquare with an opportunity to sign up for a conference.
Our evening conference day will be October 30th, but this year, this falls on a day when there is a board meeting. For this reason, our evening conference day will end by 6:30 p.m. to free up any parents, guardians and staff who would like to attend the board meeting.
After School Programs
Our after-school programs—STARS, PÁGINAS, Strings, and Mariachi—are all up and running! Most of these activities are geared toward students in grades 3–5, with the exception of STARS. We’ll also be hosting Parks and Recreation Basketball this winter.
To ensure a smooth transition and maintain a safe, orderly environment for everyone, we’ve aligned all after-school programs with our school’s existing Behavior Matrix. This change ensures students receive consistent expectations and messaging throughout the entire day.
We will have copies of the Behavior Matrix available for you at our upcoming parent-teacher conferences for you to review with your child.
Toys at School
We want to make sure your child has the best possible learning experience at school! To help our students stay focused and ensure that special items aren’t misplaced or damaged, please remind them that toys and stuffed animals should remain at home.
If a teacher decides to allow a toy for a classroom event (like a Pajama Day), you will receive a specific note about that day. Otherwise, let’s keep those treasures safe at home.
Lost and Found
Despite our efforts to get names on all personal items to help us return them, our lost and found is almost full! Please feel free to stop by to check the lost-and-found to see if your child has lost anything at school.
Last Minute After School Plan Changes
If you have last minute changes for what your student is doing after school, please contact us by 2:00pm. Unless it is an emergency, we cannot guarantee a last minute change will be communicated in time if it is requested just minutes before the bell rings.
