Gecko News (1-19-2024)

Dear Garfield Families,

I hope you’ve been having a nice week and staying safe and warm!

Family Engagement Survey

This year, we will be having Family Engagement Nights. We’re interested in hearing your thoughts about what they should focus on. A survey will be sent through ParentSquare and a hard copy will be sent in student’s Friday folders. Please choose one of the survey formats for your input. This should be sent out within the next week.

Volunteer Opportunity from the First Grade Team

Greetings! We are looking for volunteers to help with Lego Robotics Sessions in first grade. If you are able to volunteer with any of these sessions, please contact Cathy Law at [email protected].

No STEM or Robotics experience is necessary to volunteer! During the sessions you will sit with 2-3 students and support them while they build a small Lego robot and program it to do simple things. Instructions and help available at all times during the activity.

Here is the schedule:

Maestra Rodecap’s Class: 9:30-10:45 am, Feb 5-8

Maestra Rodinsky’s Class: 9:30-10:45 am, Feb 20-23

Maestra Morales’ Class: 9:30-10:45 am, Feb 26-29

If you have not already done so this school year or last school year, you will need to be cleared by the Corvallis School District before you can volunteer. You do that by filling out a very short volunteer application here: https://www.helpcounterweb.com/welcome/apply.php?district=corvallis. Make sure to select “Garfield Elementary School” as a place you want to volunteer. Then watch your email as you may get a request for further information. Eventually, you will get an email that says you are cleared to volunteer. The process takes up to 3 weeks to complete, so please do it right away. The clearance will be good for this school year and next school year!

Important Dates:

Feb. 1& 2: No School: Grading and Report card prep

Feb. 9: Report cards sent home with students

I hope you all have a nice weekend.

Sincerely,

Nancy Davila-Williams, Garfield Principal
