Dear Garfield Families,
Thank you all for your help and support with the Garfield Gecko Run! It was so great to see the students enjoying their run with their friends to some music! They did a fantastic job!
Conferences
Teachers have been working diligently to prepare information for parent/teacher conferences. The schedule for next week is as follow:
- Wednesday, October 29: Extra early release at 12:30pm.
- Thursday and Friday, October 30 and 31: Parent teacher conferences: No school
Conferences are a dedicated time to meet with every family, celebrating your student’s progress and partnering with you on areas for growth. We’re aiming for 100% attendance and look forward to seeing you there!
Garfield Elementary School-Family Compact
At Garfield, we value partnering with families to help students succeed in school. One part of our school’s Title 1 plan is sharing our annual School-Family Compact which outlines ways we can all work together to support your child. Teachers will have a copy of the compact for you at your parent-teacher conference.
After School Programs Next week 10/29-10/31
Monday and Tuesday of next week, after school programs run as usual. However, their Wednesday through Friday schedules are as follows:
Paginas: No Páginas Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, 10/29-10/31
Strings: No strings at Garfield on Wednesday 10/29
STARS: Stars will run after school on Wednesday 10/29 only
Mariachi: No mariachi on Thursday 10/30
Aligned behavior expectations with after-school programs
We have been working with the after school programs that happen in the Garfield school building to align on expectations. Since students are still in the school building, we are seeing the need to work together on this. It also helps avoid mixed messaging and sets students up for success at school. Each program still has their own protocols for how they address any issues but we are working to align our expectations. Teachers will have a copy of the Garfield behavior matrix at conferences for families.
Please know that the matrix is a general expectations document for our overall student body but we do know that students are individuals and have varying needs which we will adjust for as necessary.

A Note From the Garfield PTA
Thank you, Garfield Community, for making the Gecko Run such a fun and successful event! Our students, staff, and volunteers had a fantastic time participating and cheering each other on.
The PTA will continue accepting donations for the run through the end of October. Your contributions help support programs like Lego Robotics, OBOB, Lucha Libros, and teacher-requested classroom needs. While fundraising is always optional, there’s still time to give.
Donations can be made by:
- Check or cash (dropped off at the office; checks payable to Garfield PTA)
- Online at paypal.me/garfieldgeckos
Thank you again for your support!
