Gecko News 10/3/2025

Dear Garfield Families,

As the weather shifts, we want to ensure all students can enjoy our outdoor recess! We go outside as much as possible—rain or shine—and only heavy rain keeps us inside. Please help us prepare your child for the fall weather by sending them to school daily with a hooded jacket and closed-toe shoes. If you need assistance with either of these items, please contact the front office to be connected with our Family Advocate, Angelica Muñoz.

Gecko Run Update: Jenny Bulthuis

Date Change: the Gecko Run, Garfield’s annual jog-a-thon will now take place on Thursday, October 16, from 1:00–2:00 pm. Parents, be sure to mark your calendars—this event relies on volunteers to make it a success! We’d love your help counting laps and cheering on the kids.

A background check is required to volunteer. Apply here: Volunteer Background Check

Please contact Jenny Bulthuis if you would like to volunteer: [email protected]

Meals at School

We want to make sure that all families are aware that we provide a free, healthy breakfast and lunch to all students every day. Please feel free to have students eat breakfast and/or lunch at school on any or every day of the school week.

Last Minute After School Plan Changes

As you know, we have more than 380 students to get to the right place after school every day. The end of the school day is a very busy time! If you have last minute changes for what your student is doing after school, please contact us by 2:00pm.  Unless it is an emergency, we cannot guarantee a last minute change will be communicated in time if it is requested just minutes before the bell rings.

We appreciate your help with this.
