Thank you all so much for joining us for the Garfield Picnic, Fiesta Mexicana, and Curriculum Night! It was great to see the Garfield families enjoying their picnics, the amazing dancing and the great company. If you did not get a chance to join us, there will be more opportunities for us all to gather throughout the year.
Now that we have been in school for almost a month, I wanted to check in about school/home communication. Your input and perspective is vital to a successful experience for your child. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s experience at Garfield, the first contact should be their classroom teacher. Our classroom teachers are building strong relationships with their students and are ready to support each student to be successful. The classroom teacher will make sure that other staff members who can support your child will be a part of the conversation.
Parent conferences are a great opportunity to learn about how your child is doing at school and check in with the teacher. On October 30th, we have teacher preparation day and on October 31st and November 1st, we will have parent teacher conferences. There will not be school on these dates. Your child’s teacher will be sending a letter home with information about conferences. Please remember, when picking up your children, meet them on the playground side of the school as that is where teachers will be dismissing students. Also, avoid double parking, illegal U-turns, cell phone use, blocking garbage cans and driveways. All students should be picked up promptly at the end of the day. The bell rings at 2:30 pm (Monday-Thursday) or 1:30 pm (Friday). If your student is not enrolled in Gecko Club, they should be heading home after school and if they are playing on the playground, parents are responsible for their supervision at that point. Thank you for your help following our school-wide expectations. We want to help keep all of our students safe. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the office or call (541) 757-5941.
