Gecko News (12/6/2019)

Dear Families,

Welcome to a wonderful December!  We have begun our Look for the Good Campaign.  This is an amazing opportunity for every member of our Garfield community to take a minute to appreciate what we are grateful for.  When you stop by Garfield in the next few weeks, take a minute to look at our Gratitude Wall in the front display case.  Each day students will have the opportunity to write a note and share it on the Gratitude Wall.

We hope to see you all at the Garfield Winter Celebration tonight at 6:00 pm at Linus Pauling Middle School.  We will celebrate in the school cafeteria with a potluck. Please bring a dish to share.  If your last name begins with A-G, bring a main dish.  If your last name begins with H-P, bring a side dish.  If your last name begins with Q-Z, bring a dessert. Student artwork will be displayed. At 7:00 pm, all grades and the school choir will sing. This will be a great way for our entire community to celebrate with each other and take a moment to appreciate each other and all that we bring to our community.

December is an exciting time for our school community. Starting on December 20, students will be off of school for two weeks. While this can be wonderful, the change in routine can prove stressful to some students. If you have any questions or need support bridging their needs during the break, please contact our office.  Our school navigator, Umy Concepcion, our family liaisons, Yannie Reyes Alvarez and Khalidah Daod, or our school counselor, Mara Silvera, will be happy to assist you. Umy Concepcion will be available throughout the break and can be contacted at (541) 250-6736.

All of the staff at Garfield wish you and your family a safe winter break and a happy new year.  We look forward to seeing you all in January.

Sincerely,

Principal Santy
