Principal's letter
Dear Families,
Happy February! It is hard to believe we are in February already! Amongst the amazing things happening in the next month at Garfield, our Books and Breakfast on Saturday February 8th at 8:30 am in the cafeteria will be a great opportunity to visit with other Garfield families, eat breakfast, and share books. Please join us, everyone is welcome and you do not need to bring a book to donate.
During the month of January, the entire Garfield staff was working to celebrate and recognize respect throughout our school. Our classes have been engaging in conversations about how to respond to someone in a respectful way. We encourage all of our students to think about how they would hope to be treated by someone else and use that as a guide to how to respond to others. Adults across the school are working to give students feedback and build their skills. I encourage you to check out our website where we recognized a student from each classroom who regularly models being respectful to the school, others and themselves. https://garfield.csd509j.net/news/respect-assembly/
Student progress reports will be sent home today, on February 7th in your child’s backpack. This report will show progress towards meeting end of year standards. If a student is not yet proficient by February, that is not necessarily any cause for concern since these are end of year standards:
– A level 1 on a standard means that the student has not met the standard
– A level 2 on a standard means that the student is developing the skills to meet the standard
– A level 3 on a standard means that the student is proficient in the standard
– A level 4 on a standard means that the student has exceeded expectations on that standard.
A quick reminder about before and after school. The front of Garfield is a very busy place at the beginning and end of the school day. I would like to take a minute to remind families to pay close attention to our crossing guards who are directing pedestrian traffic at the crosswalk on Garfield and the crosswalk in front of the school. We want to ensure this is a safe experience for everyone. If you have any questions, please stop by the Garfield office or call 541-757-5941.
Sincerely,
Principal Santy
