Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe that I’m writing my last newsletter of the school year. Together, our community has transitioned through three learning platforms in one school year, and though I know it has not been easy, walking through the classrooms, I’d never know it. Everyone has been working hard to make sure that the students on-site and online, have had the best possible experience given the circumstances. I am so grateful for the Garfield staff, students and families and am proud to be part of this community.
Last day of School:
The last day of school for this year is June 18th and on-site and Cohort C/Q students will finish school by 1:00pm.
No Gecko club on Friday:
The Boys and Girls Club is closed on Friday to get ready for their summer programs. Please pick students up at school by 1:00pm.
Upcoming Events:
How wonderful it was to see the Kindergarten students at their drive-through certificate pick up! In person or by car, this time of year and these celebrations are always special!
Fifth grade graduation will be this afternoon, June 17th from 4-6 on Cleveland by Garfield Park and will also be a Drive/Ride/Walk through to pick up certificates.
Ipad: App Access:
All students will get to take their ipads home for the summer, where they will have access to a variety of academic apps that they’ve used over the year. If you haven’t done so already, identify a space in your home where the iPad can rest when your student is not having structured ipad time. We hope they will continue to practice on the apps, but mostly that they will enjoy the outdoors and with their families.
Summer Programs (resending the note from the district):
Summer is finally here! As we close out this year of a constantly shifting landscape, we would like to thank our families for your perseverance and commitment and for advocating for the needs of your children. We also thank our staff who have been flexible and adaptive throughout this highly unusual year. No one has experienced the pandemic in exactly the same way, and we know it has been a challenging and stressful year. We have high hopes for a resumption of full-time, in-person school next fall.
Thank you to all families who completed the Summer Program Interest Form shared with you late last month. Due to limited capacity and resources, not all students will be placed in a summer program. School staff have been contacting families individually to discuss opportunities available. If you have not been contacted by the school and are in need of summer program ideas, please check out the Summer Resources for Families, compiled by our staff.
