Dear Garfield Families,

We are looking forward to welcoming students back and welcoming our new students to Garfield for the 2022-2023 school year! As we approach the first day of school, we want to share some important information to start the school year with.

Class Placements

  • Student class assignments will be sent out online after 4:00pm on September 2.

First day of school:

  • Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 8:00am.

Arrival:

  • Pick up and drop off areas will be the same as last year:
  • Kinder and 1st: Gates on Dixon Street
  • 2nd and 3rd: South Classroom Doors from the drop-off lanes through the driveway
  • 4th and 5th: Through the gates on 11th street

School starts promptly at 8:00am. Students can be dropped off no earlier than 7:45am. There is no supervision available before that time.

Kinder parents are welcome to walk their children to the classroom door for the first week of school. After that, all K/1 students will be dropped off at the gates.

School Hours for all students (K-5)

  • 7:45 am – gates open for student arrival (parents drop off at the gates for K-1)
  • 8:00 am – school starts: Breakfast available in the classroom
  • 2:30 pm – school ends (Monday-Thursday)
  • 1:30 pm – school ends (Friday, early release)

Back to School Events:

  • 9/6/22 Meet the Teacher 11-12pm
  • 9/7/22 PTA sponsored coffee for kinder and new Garfield families 8:00am
  • 9/22/22 Family Picnic and Open House 5:00 – 7:50pm
  • Elementary Calendar

After School Plans:

  • Students need to have a clear after-school plan communicated to their teacher and to the office.
  • The Boys and Girls Club and the Gecko Club will not be up and running until September 12, 2022. Please make alternative plans until then.

Lunch:

  • Garfield Elementary offers free breakfast and lunch for all students.
  • No sign up is required for free lunch but the application should be filled out if you would like access to scholarships for community programs and sports.
  • Please make sure to communicate information about any food allergies your child has with the office.

Medication:

  • If your student has any medications that may need to be taken at school, (including epi-pens) please contact the school office at 541-766-5941 to schedule an appointment for checking them in and dropping them off.

Supplies:

  • We will provide all necessary school supplies that students will need at school.
  • Students are encouraged to bring a backpack and water bottle.

Volunteers: 

  • We will have several opportunities for you to volunteer at Garfield this year.
  • Please allow about three weeks for the process to be completed.

Safety Precautions

  • Masking continues to be optional this year.
