Dear Garfield Families,
The summer break is coming to a close, and we are putting the finishing touches on the school to be ready to welcome everyone back. We are pleased to begin another school year with your students and look forward to the learning and growth in their bilingual journey that awaits. We are so happy to partner with you in this important journey and look forward to a wonderful year together.
Here is some key information to help you plan for a successful and smooth transition.
General School Details
- First day of school: Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.
- School Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
- School begins each day at 8:00 a.m
- Breakfast will be offered to all students in the cafeteria beginning at 7:40 a.m. instead
of in the classrooms
- Hot breakfast options end at 7:50 a.m. Students who arrive after 7:50 a.m. will still be
offered breakfast; but it will be the cereal option
- All students will enter through the cafeteria this year
- Supervision is not available before 7:40 a.m.
Arrival Details
- All students will enter the building through the cafeteria at the front of the building.
- Families are welcome to drop off at the front of the school but please remain in the
car and drop off so that we can keep traffic moving
- Some families choose to drop off anywhere along the block that they feel their
student will be safe walking from
- If you would like to walk your student to the door, please find parking away from
the drop off lane and walk them to the cafeteria door
- Staff will be there and ready to welcome students
Dismissal Details
- Dismissal is at 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1:30 p.m. on Fridays.
- Kindergarten and First grade students will exit through the Dixon Street Gate
- Second and Third grade students will exit from their classroom doors at the front of the school. Please remain in your car and allow the student to come to you
- Fourth and Fifth grade students will exit through the black gates on the 11th street side of the school
Transportation
- Please let the office know what your student’s transportation plan is.
Meals at School
- Garfield Elementary offers free breakfast and lunch for all students.
- Please note: Individual items such as milk by itself, are not free. Funds are required at
the time of purchase. To make online deposits, go to: https://linqconnect.com.
Supplies:
- We will provide all necessary school supplies that students will need at school.
- Please send students to school with a backpack and a water bottle.
- If you need help with a backpack and/or water bottle, please contact the office.
Personal Electronic Devices
- All personal electronic devices will need to stay at home
- This includes phones, smart watches, ipads or any other electronic device
- Your student is always welcome to use the office phone to contact you as needed

- Tuesday, 9/2/25 Meet the Teacher 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (10:00 a.m. Kinder playdate)
- Wednesday, 9/3/25 First day of school
- Monday, 9/8/25 PTA sponsored coffee for Kinder and new Garfield families 8:00 a.m.
- Thursday, 9/18/25 Family Picnic and Open House Time TBD
