Gecko News9/12/2025

Dear Garfield Families,

Thank you so much for your support in getting this school year off to a smooth start! We know that the beginning of a new school year can be a big adjustment, especially with new routines and early mornings.

Your kids are doing a fantastic job settling in, and that’s thanks to your help. We truly appreciate all your efforts at home that make our work at school so much more successful.

Garfield Picnic and Open House

The Garfield Picnic and Open House will be September 18th from 5:30 – 7:15 p.m.

The first part of the evening is for families to bring their dinners to enjoy together on the lawn or at the tables together with other Garfield families. When it is announced, families will then come into their children’s classrooms to spend some time with teachers learning about what the day looks like for students and other information about the school year. We hope you can join us!

Picture Day

Picture day will be on October 10th, 2025

Gecko Run: Message from parent volunteer, Jenny Bulthuis

The Gecko Run is Garfield’s annual jog-a-thon and one of the most exciting events of the year! The whole school heads out to the back field, where Maestra Lepe keeps the energy high with music as students run laps alongside their classmates. This fun-filled tradition is also the PTA’s largest fundraiser, helping support field trips, classroom supplies, Lego Robotics, and more.

This year’s Gecko Run will take place on Thursday, October 2, from 1:00–2:00 pm. Parents, be sure to mark your calendars—this event relies on volunteers to make it a success! We’d love your help counting laps and cheering on the kids.

A background check is required to volunteer. Apply here: Volunteer Background Check

Names on personal items

We are seeing the Lost and Found slowly fill up again. One way you can help us get items back to their owners is to write your children’s name on all of their personal items such as sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, backpacks. Anything you think they might take off or leave behind during the day, should have their name and grade written in it or on it.  We really appreciate your help with this.
