Principal’s Welcome Back Letter

Welcome families! We are so excited to see all of our students and families back at Garfield Elementary School. It has been a fantastic start to the school year! Our teachers are working hard to build strong relationships with each student. Our students are working so hard to be amazing Geckos.

I wanted to take a moment to highlight events coming up in September. On September 19th, we will have our Back to School Picnic and Curriculum Night. Feel free to bring your picnic dinner and join other Garfield families at 4:30 p.m. by the playground. At 5:30 p.m., we will invite parents to join us in the gym. At that time, we will share a summary of our Dual Language Immersion program and Title I School-Wide Support. At 6:00 p.m., we will invite parents to join us in their child’s classroom for an explanation of classroom routines, expectations, and units of study that students will be studying throughout the year. During classroom presentations, childcare will be available for 3-11 year old children.

With the beginning of the school year, I wanted to review our school arrival and dismissal routines with families. In the morning, student supervision begins at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 7:30-8:00 a.m. Students are to enter the school through the front doors or the playground doors. If a student arrives to school before 8:00 a.m., they must make a choice of where they will go. There will be a board posted in the front hall informing students of the morning locations that they can choose. Students are to go to that location. When the bell rings at 8:00 a.m., students will be dismissed to their classrooms. If you would like to wait with your child at school until 8:00 a.m., please feel free to join us in the cafeteria. After 8.05 a.m., students are considered late.

At the end of the school day (2:30 p.m. M-Th and 1:30 p.m. F), please meet your child at these doors:

  • Students in rooms 2 and 4-12 will be dismissed from their classroom doors facing the playground
  • Students in room 1 and room 3 will be dismissed from the west doors at the end of the primary hallway
  • Students in rooms 13 will be dismissed from the recess doors located in the center of the building
  • Students in rooms 14 -18 will be dismissed from the gym door
  • Students in rooms 33-35 will be dismissed from their classrooms

I am so happy to see all of our families at Garfield. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the office or call (541) 757-5941

Sincerely,
Principal Santy
