Respect Assembly (1/24/2020)

In January, the entire Garfield staff was working to celebrate and recognize respect throughout our school.  During our January 24th assembly, we recognized a student from each classroom who regularly models being respectful to the school, others and self.

Our classes have been engaging in conversations about how to respond to someone in a respectful way.  We encourage all of our students to think about how they would hope to be treated by someone else and use that as a guide to how to respond to others.

Adults across the school are working to give students feedback and build their skills.  You may hear a teacher telling a student, “that was not a respectful response, you have a choice you can take a break first or follow instructions now.”  This is what we call a “do-over”.  We have discussed how everyone is working to develop their skills and need feedback.  By giving a student a “do-over”, it gives them feedback that they did not respond respectfully and gives them a chance to practice a respectful response
